Once again it was another very successful year for our Architects and Developers at both the “LABC East Midlands Regional Building Excellence Awards” and the “LABC National Building Excellence Awards”.
A number of projects within Nottinghamshire were nominated at the regional awards which took place at the Village Hotel in Nottingham with two projects, Castle College, Beeston and Chetwynd Business Park, Chilwell, winning their respective categories and going on to represent the region at the National Awards event held at the Marriott Hotel, Grosvenor Square, London. Castle College was ultimately successful in winning both best in category and being chosen as the overall winner receiving the “Supreme Award”. |

The awards are designed to recognise and reward the efforts made in producing high standards of design and quality of construction in ensuring buildings are safe, accessible and environmentally efficient. The awards also acknowledge the co-operative working relationships formed between local authority building control and clients.

The building forms the second phase of a redevelopment plan for the college site that is intended to dramatically transform and improve the learning experiences for students. The development was chosen because it was felt to be iconic and a genuine example of design and construction at its best and for the development team’s dedication and thoroughness in addressing building performance and sustainability issues without disrupting the aesthetics.
The development team, which included Castle College, CPMG Architects, contractors Mansell Construction Services, Broxtowe Borough and Nottingham City Councils, were delighted with the awards. Nick Gregory, from CPMG said “This is fantastic news”. |

A development of two highly efficient and innovative eco-offices won the award for the Best Sustainable Building and was Highly Commended in the Best Small Commercial Building category at the regional awards event.
These open plan office units formed the final phase of the Chetwynd Business Park and are part of a speculative development undertaken by Loughborough based contractor and developer William Davis Ltd. Designed by Maber Architects the offices utilised renewable energy and natural resources to help minimise the occupier’s carbon footprint yet at the same time remain aesthetically consistent with surrounding buildings. Stewart Kellie, from William Davis Ltd said “Everyone associated with this development can feel extremely proud”. |
